The journey from Umlazi to Springbok is a massive 1600 km trek across the breadth of South Africa. You will traverse the N3, N1, and N14 highways, passing through the Free State and the vast plains of the Northern Cape. This is a multi-day journey for most, offering a transition from the lush east coast to the arid, flower-filled landscapes of Namaqualand. Driving is the only practical mode of transport, as public transit options are extremely limited and involve multiple transfers.
Total Distance: 1600 km driving distance; 1250 km straight-line air distance.
Plan for an overnight stop in Kimberley or Upington to manage fatigue.
August to September, when the Namaqualand flowers are in full bloom.
